In very rare cases, it may happen that your main parachute is not steerable and/or not landable. You will then need to perform your emergency procedures to get rid of the defective canopy and open the reserve canopy.
All sections of this course are extremely important. Despite everything, this section as well as the next one (module 8) must absolutely retain your full attention.
The steps in a complete emergency procedure are as follows:
Steps of an Emergency Procedure
1. I look at my fabric handle
2. I grab it with my right hand and cover it with my left hand
3. I look at my metal handle and I will never take my eyes off it
4. I tear off my fabric handle and pull it at the end of my arms
5. I tuck my left thumb into the metal handle and cover with my right hand
6. I pull the metal handle at the end of my arms
7. I immediately take an arched position
Make sure you master this technique perfectly. You will be asked to reproduce it perfectly before your first jump. Feel free to watch the video several times and practice.
Emergency procedures must be carried out sufficiently high. The minimum altitude at which they must be carried out, if necessary, during your training is 2,500 feet. This altitude is called the decision altitude. This is the altitude at which you must determine if your main canopy is STEERABLE and LANDABLE or if it is not. If it is not at 2,500 feet, you should perform your emergency procedures immediately.
This module does not include a quiz. On your first day you will be asked to demonstrate how to perform an emergency procedure.
